About Monteprandone and the province of Ascoli Piceno
Despite the work done over the centuries, Monteprandone still has an urban layout with medieval origins as we can see from various parts of the renovated wall. The oldest structure, the Church of Saint Leonardo, still shows off its gothic structure. Remains can be viewed at Porta da Mare and Porta da Monte, two entrances into the city, demonstrating a previous type of urban layout.
Piazza dell'Aquila is the heart of the city centre where we can find the Town Hall and the Civic Museum, which houses the Miniati Codes from the 15th century which belonged to San Giacomo della Marca.
Some of the most important places to visit include the Church of San Nicolò di Bari, which houses the oldest organ in Le Marche; the Oratory of San Giacomo (the saint's native home) and the Sanctuary of Saint Maria delle Grazie. The latter, which is even more important, has a remarkable painting by Vincenzo Pagani called "L'incoronazione della Vergine" (The Crowning of the Virgin). The church also has the saint's body for worship, as well as a number of personal objects belonging to him, and it hosts a section of the Sistini Museums in the Piceno area.
